"It's not that I am an artisan who created the original drum, but a dedicated craftsman with a passion for sonics an understanding of the material. I am on this lifelong journey as a passionate drumer who desires to create an atmosphere for meaningful change."
Under his Wing
"I picked up the drums in 5th grade through an after-school program and continued all through high school. I struggled in the traditional classroom due to a visual processing disorder. Shop & Music empowered me to listen & take a bottom up approach to life. One day my percussion teacher handed me a raw Counter Hoop and asked if I wanted to paint it, the pivotal moment connected my two interests allowing me to express myself in a new way."
Start with what you have
"I later landed a job working for a specialized wood supplier where I assisted with the musical drum shell division. My first week on the job I was sent out to deliver shells to some band on tour named Poison. The drummer Rickey Rocket & his tech. Bobby "Tango" Gibb had converted an airstream trailer into a workshop. Here we were hanging behind the tour bus and the duo were building custom drums on the road. I realized it doesn’t take a bunch of sqft or fancy machines to move someone’s heart."
"While I enjoyed the work, I was hollow on the inside just like the very drums I was building. I began filling the void with a self-indulgent "rock star" lifestyle, though in reality I was passively committing suicide.
A regular named Roger (Battlefield Drums) often stopped in for shells & I noticed something was a bit different about him. Regardless of life’s trials he wasn't empty like I was, often saying "I am blessed" in a cheerful manner. I had no idea what it meant, but that little phrase stuck with me.
While I did not grow up in a "Christ centered home" I surrender my life to Jesus Christ in 2009 after a series of events. Life is certainly no walk in the park, though I can cheerfully say the void in my heart is filled, "I am blessed"."
